He's the larger than life star who made his name in comedies such as Superbad and Get Him To The Greek.

But last night Jonah Hill was virtually unrecognisable as he showed off his new slimline physique at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles after losing an astonishing amount of weight.

The 27-year-old actor highlighted his new slim frame by wearing a smart black suit to the event, teamed with a striped purple shirt and matching tie.

Jonah spoke recently about his attempts to lose weight for his role in upcoming thriller 21 Jump Street.

He told the Los Angeles Times: 'It’s not fun. I wouldn’t say it’s the most fun endeavour I’ve ever took on in my life - but it’s important. And I’m enjoying it.

'If I eat something unhealthy now, I kind of feel a little weird and my body hurts.'

Jonah kick started his weight loss earlier this year when he started to see a nutritionist and worked out with a personal trainer because he 'thought it was important to be healthier.'

It is estimated Jonah has lost around 40 pounds through his new diet and exercise regime.

Jonah recently finished shooting upcoming movie 21 Jump Street, alongside co-star Channing Tatum.

The film is about an undercover police unit consisting of young looking officers who infiltrate high schools to control youth crime.

And Jonah revealed recently the action movie is set to have a lot of comedy as well.

He said: 'It's a comedy with really cool action. We're not doing something serious like Miami Vice.

'But it's not a parody. It's a funny movie with a lot of great action and a real story. I've been saying that it's like a John Hughes movie with Bad Boys style action.'

Jonah rose to fame after appearing in Judd Apatow's directorial debut, The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

That then led to parts such as a larger supporting role in Knocked Up, and leading roles in the Apatow-produced Superbad and Get Him to the Greek.
