Charice Debuts at 8th Place in the Billboard Top 200 Albums

Charice became the first Filipino solo artist to penetrate the Top 10 of Billboard 200 by virtue of her album debuting at no. 8 position.

Charice Pempengco's self-titled international debut album which was launched on the Oprah Winfrey Show last May 11 debuted at no. 8 of Billboard Top 200 albums chart (issue of May 29, 2010) after selling 43,000 copies. It was the third highest debut this week after the National’s "High Violet" (#3) and The Dead Weather’s "Sea of Cowards" (#5).

The carrier single off the album, "Pyramid" featuring Iyaz peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Dance/Club chart last week. Now, it entered the Billboard Top 100 Singles chart at no. 56. It’s interesting to note that Charice’s first single “Note to God” which was released last year on Oprah debuted at no. 44 of Billboard 100 even without an accompanying music video.

Ruling the chart is Justin Bieber, who returns to the no. 1 position after selling 60,000 copies right after his appearance on Oprah. Bieber’s "My World 2.0" album has already sold nearly 980,000 copies since its released more than a month ago.
