ABS-CBN Denies 'Twilight' Local TV Adaptation

ABS-CBN said there is no truth to the rumor that they are doing a local television version of the hit novel and movie 'Twilight'.

Last week, abs-cbnnews.com reported the local television adaptation but according to ABS-CBN Corporate Communications’ Bong Osorio "There is no truth to the Web reports, particularly in the Perez Hilton blogsite, that ABS-CBN is doing a local adaptation of Twilight. ABS-CBN will be the first to announce if it is, in fact doing so."

The so-called local television adaptation was supposed to be called 'Takipsilim' with Shaina Magdayao and Rayver Cruz as the lead stars. According to the report by abscbnnews.com, the rights for the tv remake of Twilight was bought by ABS-CBN for the price of 1 million US Dollars with Ignite Media as co-producer.

It was also mentioned in the article that the taping of Takipsilim will begin in February 2009 with Cathy Garcia-Molina as the director.

After the rumor was published in the popular Perez Hilton blog, Twilight fans all over the world reacted negatively with 7,600 entries in the petition against the Filipino version of the vampire film.

ABS-CBN to Do a Local Adaptation of Twilight

Twilight, the movie adaptation of the best-selling novel by Stephanie Meyer, has earned more than Php180 million to be the no. 1 Hollywood movie at the Philippines Box Office for 2008.

The success of the movie doesn’t end there. ABS-CBN recently announced that it bagged the exclusive rights to make a local television series based on the best-selling vampire novels of Stephanie Meyer.

According to reports, ABS-CBN acquired the rights for 1 million US Dollars, or around Php48 million pesos, with co-producer Ignite Media for the local tv version of the series.

Local version will have a tentative titled “Takipsilim” (the tagalog word for Twilight), and will star Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao.

Taping for the series will start February under the direction of Cathy Garcia-Molina.
